On Thursday night, June 4, 2009, the Argos Youth League Girls Softball 13 U Team hosted their first home game on our newly renovated field. In the past games were held at the Argos Community Park on the North Field which has a grass infield. It was decided by the AYL board that to meet the needs of the growing interest in girls softball they would need their own field. Now the girls will play on a regulation softball field--complete with a full aggregate infield! After receiving permission from the Argos Park Board to renovate an abandond field south-west of the High School; work began in the fall of 2008 with stripping and regrading the field with new aggregate. The existing Backstop was used with plans to re-paint it at a later date. Other improvements include two new dug outs, new concession stand, and new scoreboard. Total cost of the renovation is nearly $6,000. All materials were purchased with money that was raised via sponsorship banners, concession sales, team sponsorships, and private donations. All labor was provided by the AYL board members, coaches and local volunteers.
Special thanks to Langfeldt Excavating, Miami Trucking, Hensley Concrete, Rowe Accounting, Stevens Roofing & Siding, Transit Mix, Big C Lumber, Lowes, The Robert Henry Corporation, Michiana Contracting, Concrete Creations, Mike Houin, Tucker Thayer, the Town of Argos, and all of those who contributed their time and talent to helping build the softball field for our current and future players!
